when they get checked they make a winning noise if you have a winner; before you pass it to be checked to the cashier they are supposed to be signed, when you buy the ticket you get a receipt from the lotto machine so someone can't claim the ticket was there's without the receipt also.

(Convenience store clerks/owners were winning ALOT of the jackpots...)
