STIS: When we moved in, every wall in this house was painted a horrible flat "builder brown". It's a dull tan color that picks up every single mark

and scuff. I desperately want to paint with higher quality paint in nicer colors (don't worry Will, not now, I'm just thinking for down the road...)

So when we painted the teeny tiny downstairs bathroom (it's the Harry Potter room under the stairs sort of deal - very small, hardly any wall space to paint), the old flat paint soaked up so much of the new stuff that we needed 2 gallons just to paint this room. In reality we should have needed *maybe* 2 quarts. That means we are going to need a loooooot of paint for the medium/big rooms.

Is there something else I can do rather than "get more paint than you should need" in order to prevent this from happening? Would a coat of primer solve that problem?
