Well, no. It's because having a single point of failure is a poor survival strategy. And if we keep going the way we're going, Earth will die.

Well, die insofar as supporting life-as-we-know-it.
Someone once raised the point, "If we can terraform other planet's atmospheres, why can't we just fix Earth's atmosphere?" - which is fair. But Earth is also a target for an ELE, so a backup strategy doesn't hurt.
