There was an episode of the podcast Reply All that was very similar to this. The host kept calling a scammer that was pretending to be Apple.

I'm not going to get into everything that happened but he spoke with the guy repeatedly, other people that did the same thing and eventually wound up visiting the Indian call center to try and get more details.
I highly recommend the podcast. The episode is titled "Long Distance" and I believe it has two parts.
