Darkest Hour grade - One man show earns Best Pic nod. If Oldman wasn't so good in this I think it would be just an OK movie. (spoils) -- (edited)

And I wonder whether his nomination is due to great acting or great impersonation. Either way, he was very good. But is one person's great acting enough to make this Best Picture? I don't think so.
After mulling over the 9 nominees I've rearranged my favorites. Phantom Thread has stuck with me more than any of the others so it goes to #1. I haven't seen I, Tonya (that's my next movie) so I can't yet say whether it deserved a Best Actress nomination (or even Best Pic). I do think Vicky Krieps should have been nominated for Best Actress, maybe replacing Sally Hawkins or Saoirse Ronan. Get Out drops down a couple because of how it fell apart after the halfway point. I moved Three Billboards up because of the acting (if I judge Darkest Hour better than others because of acting it's only fair I give credit to Billboards). I still have issues with the writing, and therefore, with the characters. Out of my top 5, Dunkirk has the weakest acting but I think that's only because there were so many little stories within a really big story that no one had a chance to stand out in a big way.
My Best Pic rankings:
1. Phantom Thread
2. Dunkirk
3. The Post
4. Darkest Hour
5. Three Billboards
6. Call Me by Your Name
7. Get Out
8. The Shape of Water
9. Lady Bird
