You can say "oh, I didn't mean to offend" and change it, but then you're giving the over-sensitive complainer a feeling of smug satisfaction and rewarding their behaviour.
Or you can say "no, that's stupid, I'm not changing anything" and maybe have it lead to a fight.
Better not to have the argument in the first place.
