I'm looking to purchase a teapot (I don't think I've ever owned one) - is there a difference between ceramic, stainless steel, cast iron, etc?

My friend *swears* she can taste a difference when the water is boiled in a steel tea pot. I'm not sure if it's in her head or not. :)
