n, and again. I googled how to stop them (I'm on the Do Not Call list) and found an article written by a non-profit telemarketer. He says to answer and ask to have your number removed. They have to comply (yeah, right). Also says not to yell because the person you're talking too may just put you back in the queue for another call. (But it feels so good to yell at them.) So I've been firm but assertive. "Hello? Hello? HELLO? (Because they're using an autodialer and don't always pick up right away.) How did you get this number? You shouldn't be calling me. I'm on the Do Not Call list. Please remove my number from your list."
I've been doing this several times a day for several days. The calls come in from all over the country, some with names on the caller ID, some just a phone number, quite a few lately in my area code. The last call, a few minutes ago, the guy was super friendly, like he already knew me. (I never acknowledge that I'm who they're asking for.) When I asked how he got my number, he repeated my question, and I swear he said "Jesus converted the data to IP and then I got you". I still told him to remove my number from his list, then hung up.
Nearly everyone has an accent of some kind, mostly sounding like they might be in an Indian call center. It pisses me off that these people are allowed to call me just because I signed up for Social Security. That means the government is giving out my info. I'm not even eligible for Medicare yet! AND I'll be keeping my work insurance when I retire so I won't be buying any supplemental Medicare.
Oh, retirment is only 22 days away. My chronic bronchitis, asthma, and vocal cord disorder has gotten the best of me. Work is making it worse. I'm missing so many days of work (without pay now) that I may as well be retired.
