But it's not all homegrown talent obviously, because they always spend the most money.

It doesn't really matter if the best guys are the cheap guys or the expensive guys. If you spend the most by far, and win the most championships by far, then that puts a target on your back for other fans to hate. The Red Sox are new at this "seem to be in position to win all the time" thing, so fans don't hate us the same. (But, lets not kid ourselves, plenty of people hate the Red Sox too.)
(Just like they hate the Patriots. And the Cowboys in the 90s. And some people even found a way to hate Jordan's Bulls. This is how it works.)
