this is a marketing pipe dream, that streaming content will actually be more marketable then physical media, in the next 50 years.
until 100% of americans can afford and obtain high speed internet, the technology to use streaming video, and even understand what that is and how to use it, nothing will change.
this is not a jump from a cassette to a dvd, that many people would understand, they had used physical media before.
but trying to get everyone to understand the inside-outs of streaming content is a pipedream.
i bet the % of households with a dvd player is way higher than the % of households with adequate high speed internet service.
and since as the quality will need to increase to be bluray/hi-def comptabile, the 100% with access to adequate services is even more remote. hell uverse pumps a 30mbs stream to your house, and uses at least 20mb to just feed hidef and regular channels.
