Line a bowl with stale bread. Put seasonal berries in a saucepan with sugar and a little water and cook to extract some fruit juice and make a syrup.

Pour the berries and syrup into the bread-lined bowl. Cover with bread. Put a plate on top and then a weight on the plate. Leave overnight in the refrigerator. To serve, invert the bowl onto a plate and then remove the bowl. Cream on the side.
It’s best to uses combination of berries that are in season - strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, redcurrants, black currants etc. If you’ve got interesting local berries like boysenberries, loganberries etc use those
Also use a firm bread, not one like Wonder Bread which might fall apart. You want the bread to be soaked in the berry syrup but you also want the pudding to keep its shape after you’ve removed the bowl.
