It all breaks down at some point because of how different sports are

Like a penalty shot in hockey is the closest looking thing but since it's something that often happens in the regular course of a game it doesn't have the impact, and the success rate isn't close. Or there's a free throw, if it was moved to six feet from the basket, but then there's so many points on basketball that one doesn't make a big difference.

I agree that it's all about incentives, and maybe this is the way soccer wants it, but it's weird to compare it across sports.
