Something just occurred to me about the Expanse.

Current research indicates that US and Australian accents are a little bit closer to Old English than one might otherwise expect.
Which means that when colonies fork languages, they tend to stick to the norms of the time of the fork (Albeit with some drift).
So the Earthers should be the ones who sound foreign to us, the past-viewers. The Martians should sound more familiar to contemporary ears (and in a way, they do), as should the belters (but they don’t).
Well ... it’s not a fully formed thought, just some musings.
