So I have heard 2 possible reasons but this is the one that makes the most sense.

BTW I found what I was looking for in the 12 minute mark of the second video.
I am pretty sure it has to do with tax law. Cameras and video recorders (especially in Europe) are taxed at two different rates. The video recorder is taxed higher. So they put a standard to differentiate a camera that can also shoot video from a video recorder than can also take still photos. That time a camera can shoot video before it stops is where that tax law comes into place.
In all the research on the issue nothing had to do with damage to the camera.
