Back in the day...Marvel bought Malibu for 1 reason...

for the coloring process they developed that made the art look amazing in the 1990's.
That's all they wanted. Now they got a little bonus with "Men In Black" being made and they got a taste of that. And it looked like for awhile that the book Prime (about a kid who became a Shazam like character) would be a movie would be made. It never happened...and then it turned out that some of the creators of the characters had it in their contracts that they would own a slice of the characters forever. And that instantly cut any chance of Marvel Comics doing anything serious with the characters...the contract is really a mess from what I understand...
