I only saw one episode of American idol this season, and it was when they had (8? 10?) semi-finalists performing each week, trying to be voted through to the Top 12 Finalists. The episode I saw had Allison and Adam on it (I don't recall who else). They were both very impressive, though Adam was over the top theatrical, and a bit annoying. No doubt he was talented, but he struck me as a little too Broadway, I think. (Not that I don't love Broadway, but not for this competition).
Anyway, I say all this because it sounds like a lot of people got turned off by Adam's theatrics over the weeks. He might have hurt himself by not toning it down a bit.
All that said, from everything I've heard, he deserved to win. He is certainly very talented, based on the performance I saw.
