In response to "I challenge anyone who thinks that at some point in their life, they have not made comments that were either..." by groiny

I had terrible thoughts and beliefs when I was a teenager. I would say I was a bit racist. My parents were a bad influence in that way.

My father especially was the one that would say racist things and as a kid I didn't know any better to dispute what he was saying so I followed along with him in those beliefs. High school is where I learned to be a better person and my ideas and beliefs changed. Good teachers and being around a lot of people from different cultures. The years before high school I was in gifted and talented programs that were 95% white kids. NYC might be a very diverse place but we self segregate in a big way. Neighborhoods don't tend to be mixed and a lot of elementary and middle schools are the same. High schools get a bit more diversified but not much. I was lucky to go to one that was very mixed and I was able to grow into the wonderful person you all love. :-)

I look back and can't believe some of the things I thought and did. I'm very happy none of that is saved online forever for anyone to bring up.
