There'd be no financial difference that I can see for Moviepass between me seeing Mission Impossible 6, and Jurassic World. Moviepass is buying a full ticket either way.
But theaters care. They want their own service to prosper, and fear Moviepass getting a big enough userbase that they can lean on them to get more concession sales. So, relegating them to older movies and indies would make the theaters happy.
Although thinking this through more, it's probably just a way to get people to use the service less.
