as a kid I think I read an Encyclopedia Brown story where the twist had to do with melting ice....

which for some reason made me wonder if one could fashion a single use gun out of dry ice. Well, ok, maybe you'd need to something other for a striking pin / hammer but there'd be no weapon to find as it would simply turn to gas. With the exception of perhaps one odd part

Seems that's way over engineering it
