HSBC used to phone me about potential fraud, but then ask all my account verification ID questions before telling me what it was.

"Sorry, I don't give that information out to incoming calls."

they were always a little nonplussed. I had to explain several times that to me they were an unknown number and a voice claiming to be HSBC, but I had no way of verifying that. I did check with HSBC, and they were always legit calls, and they did eventually change that policy.
