It's only for a year so we'll see how things are affected and go from there. It's the city's fault people are choosing them over the subway. -- (edited)

If the subway wasn't such a shitshow every day then people wouldn't be abandoning it for Uber and Lyft.
I would go with congestion pricing and if necessary a new tax on the uber wealthy to pay for the repairs of the subway system. If the subway was in good shape and running reliably then people wouldn't hesitate to ride it more often.
