and that thunderstorm I talked about yesterday, 10 different lightning strike fires started
|
Fire crews have responded to ten lightning ignited fires within our coverage area today (8-17-18). Three of the fires are located approximately 10 miles north of Glenns Ferry. The Alkie, Benny and Big C fires have no estimated time of containment or control at this time and at the last press release they were estimated to have already burnt over 500 acres of land combined.
The Poison Fire located 25 miles southwest of Bruneau burnt about a quarter of an acre and has been contained.
Four fires started near Highway 20, three of those have been contained, but the MM 108 Fire located eight miles northeast of Mountain Home has no estimated containment time.
The Canyon Fire located five miles north of Mountain Home has been contained and the Goldie Fire 10 miles south of town has also been contained.
The staff of the Mountain Home News will continue to follow these fires closely and will keep our readers aware of any emergency response press releases or evacuation notices that come our way. We will have a full story in next weeks issue of our paper.
Editor's Note: I understand the awe and fear that comes from seeing these fires and our fire crews up close and in action, but if you do not have a reason to be in those areas PLEASE keep our roads clear for our fire crews, people who live in those areas or ranchers trying to get their livestock out of the fires path. Things can change on these fire lines at a moments notice and these individuals need to be able to do their jobs without worrying about you being in their way or having to worry about taking themselves away from their normal responsibilities to keep you safe.
