They're getting three years or so, and the issues are around ideology and electability.

On the conservative side, there is a group that wants the party to be centre-right with enough bones thrown to keep the far-right satisfied, and another group that wants to be far-right all the way and believes that it can win elections with those policies.
On the left side, the leadership differences were more personal and there weren't especially deep policy gaps between the two Labor prime ministers. It was basically "this guy's awful and we can win more votes if I am the leader" "no, this woman is awful and we can win more if I am leader". Both those people are out of politics now, so maybe that will be over and done with - though there'll always be tension between the left and the centre-left factions of the Labor party.
