my guess is it is a combination of them promising people who have no intent on going, and the studio filming schedules.

the wait til 55 seems to be common with both doctors I have seen. There is only so much bone to screw into for replacements, and they only last 10-15 years before needing another. at 47, I likely would need more work than I would have bone to handle, meaning if I make it to 85, I likely would be unable to be fixed up.
