short answer - until the image becomes indistinguishable from real life. the issue right now is refresh rate - 60Hz is nice, but still recognizable

as a video display. the pixel sizes become pointless, like Reagen said, once they're too dense to distinguish. the issues we're facing now is content and refresh.
