There are outcomes in most curriculums about communication.

But yes, you do need to be taught it - however the time available is limited in any one course. The idea is that you get taught it over multiple courses.
Responses:
I fell like English (or French in my case) would have been a good opportunity, but they just sent us in front of the class the most without teaching
