Because Twitter has fucked up the last part every step of the way.
First, they started by attacking developers who integrated with the platform.
Then they attacked companies that build alternate clients on the platform.
Then they screwed up even the most rudimentary parts of moderating the site.
Then they screwed up rudimentary parts of the site itself (with algorithmic timelines).
And now they're butchering features of the site because of the symptoms that were caused by the algorithms.
Just sit back and do nothing (except maybe getting the moderation part right), and you'll be better off than they were.
