If tipping is culturally appropriate you should tip everyone the same percentage regardless of perceived service.

Otherwise you’re almost certainly letting your own unconscious (or even conscious) bias influence the size of your tip.
There are heaps of studies that show tip size is fairly heavily influenced by gender, age, race, attractiveness, current weather, and even dumb shit like getting the bill on an embossed tray. Tip size also doesn’t influence service, unless maybe you’re a super regular, and even then likely couple percent difference is a marginal influence to wait staff.
Basically even if you think you’re a perfectly rational tipper, you probably aren’t, and your tip isn’t doing what you think it is.
So yeah, tip generously where it’s necessary, but varying amount based off service is pointless.
