well 1) I know of people that do 2) that's a different flavour profile

maple doesn't work on a steak or a hamburger, for instance (though it does on bison, interestingly enough) but it works very well on chicken and pork.
I also wonder if this is in part because most antis are thinking about that substandard corn syrup stuff.
