Right - that's what we do every day of our lives. But we also have different rules for artists (including comedians) who we encourage to comment on

We expect them to do things like push boundaries, society, offend people and generally say things that we (as civil people) can't openly say.

So on the one hand we're telling artists "You should put yourself out there, to say the things that we can't say" but we're also saying "You can't say that, it's offensive"

Of course, there's also a big difference between, say, The Life of Brian and "dolls are gay, ha ha ha"
