Right. I often think of a Louis CK bit (if we can still talk about him). Actually one of many because he was brilliant at walking the line. It was

on SNL. In the bit he's complaining about not getting special treatment at a hotel and basically says in his defense "but I'm white". He then goes on to explain that he totally understands that white privilege is wrong, but as long as it exists . . . . It's a brilliant commentary on how even enlightened white people are comfortable on some level with the privilege. But that joke can be taken out of context and sound completely different. The best comedians straddle the line and offend some. It's just where the line is drawn. Hart's bit about the fear his son could be gay is totally different to me than his tweets. The bit could be a fair commentary about the difficulty even people who are fine with gay people and lifestyle generally can still have discomfort when it hits close to home. But the tweets can tell a different story unless read the same way. And it's harder to do that IMO.
