It's the Brexit vote. It seems likely to go down in defeat. The Northern Irish will not accept a border with Ireland.

The EU knows that's their bargaining chip. They want a tepid Brexit and May's given up a lot to get that "no border" deal. But the hard Brexiters in her party feel she's given up too much. If there's a vote tomorrow, the Brexit deal fails. This would immediately trigger a vote of no-confidence. The Scots (SNP) are already hand-in-hand with Labour so them playing footsie with each other isn't all that unusual.
