They also ignore + and anything after it so if you want to make "unique" email addresses to see who is selling your contact info, you can do

Yeah, that's been the most common glitch in the system. + is a valid SMTP email address per the spec but quite a few places get hung up on it

The spec is not very well defined, basically any filtering on email address characters is going to hit an edge case. -- nm

I did this for my badge at ReInvent, which all the vendors scanned using RFID - giving them my email address.
