There's a phenomenon about to land on Broadway, tickets are already on sale. It's called "Be More Chill." If your kid is not already very, very into this musical, they are about to be soon. Apparently this album has been streamed online nearly 200M times. I've linked the articles below that may be of reference about how it's grown organically, and how this musical happened.
I've listened to the Soundtrack, and I have a lot of thoughts. Some of it is purely brilliant. The opening number "More than Survive" is incredible. The showstopper is "Michael in the Bathroom" and be ready to hear it nonstop. Some of the songs are a hot mess. It's a bit inconsistent in that way, and I think that's where the negative reviews come from. I expect the Broadway transfer to smooth a few things out.
