Disney has indicated that they were caught off-guard by the lack of brand awareness. They expected it to act like a sequel to a beloved film. Instead, it's played out like an original IP. They're talking about a sequel because they now believe that they've rebuilt the brand.
Hiring Rob Marshall was a mistake.
