It's not like Gibson finished every game he pitched. You don't know going in whether *either* was going to go the distance.

You know Gibson has a much better chance of going a couple innings longer.
You know Pedro has a much better chance of pitching significantly better.
I'll take the pitching better over pitching longer, with all other things being equal.
