While I remain solidly in the camp that it is Gladys Knight, I will say the tone of her voice sounds slightly different than I would expect from her.

The range sounds higher than I would expect. Trying to think of someone else who might fit that mold, but having trouble. Maybe one of the Pointer Sisters?
