2018 was the first full year my wife was a lawyer, so our combined income jumped like 400%.

But in 2017, when she was a working lawyer for a few months, our liability didn't change all that much. We're doing the standard 2 exemptions on each of our W2, and I'm taking out 10% for my 401(k) while she's taking 5% out for hers.
We did buy a house this year, and I did take out a portion of my IRA for the down payment, but that's not where most of the hit is coming from.
