I think the MNL flight basically took whatever slot it could get (it's relatively new).

The US market isn't accustomed to weird late post-midnight flights in my experience. Like, there are three flights from DFW to Tokyo on AA and its partner NAL. All three leave between 11:00am and 12:20pm.
JFK (and I assume EWR) are a bit of outliers (for US airports) with these 12am-3am departures
