Hey all. The new normal has been in place for a touch more than a week now. Here's the situation.

January 26th: I get a call from my Mom at around 1pm. Dad had a stroke and the ambulance is on the way to get him to the hospital. ER crew gets the go ahead to give the clotbuster drug. As he's still in critcal condition, they opt to rush him to the Saint John hospital in order to prep him for the operation to go in and remove the clot. Mom and I go down and spend the night. Operation went smoothly. Sleep a bit in the family room at the hospital.

January 27th: Nothing much in the way of any change. At about 3pm, he gets another CT scan to see what's going on. Doctor informs us at about 6:15pm that while the drug and the operation were successful, there's bleeding and swelling and at the end of the day, there's literally nothing they can do at this point. We already knew that lying in a bed with tubes and machines hooked up constantly is not how he wanted to be, we give the go ahead to just start the process of making him comfortable. Sleep a bit in the family room at the hospital.

January 28th: We're able to get him transferred back here to the hospital as there's a bed. Family can visit easier as mostly everyone lives here. Sleep a bit in the quiet room at the hospital.

January 29th: Still hanging on. More family and friends visit. Go home to sleep.

January 30th: Mom calls at 4:38am. He's passed.

February 2nd: After prepping details with the funeral home, we hold his Celebration of Life reception from 2-4pm. The room was full from about 1:30pm to 4:30pm. We got out of there after 5pm.

So as shitty as that is, overall, we're all very relieved that it was over in the timespan that is was over in.

Strokes suck and there's nothing you can do about it.
