and play pretty sterling defense.

Mauer has already won 2 batting titles in his career. He'd also topped out at 13 homers in a year...that was very beatable in a cost/reward discussion.

330/13 vs 300/30 is a trade-off most people would make.

330/30 vs 300/30 is a clear win the other way
