In response to "ugh. 9 LSU fraternity members arrested on hazing charges. sick/grossness ahead. nm but: -- (link)" by b.

Truly not trying to victim shame, but I'll just never understand why someone would subject themselves to that to become part of a fraternity.

I pledged a fraternity in college and when they tried even the most mild form of hazing (like pledges had to clean up after the party), me and my friends who also pledged just said "No. We're not your slaves and if that means we have to de-pledge then that's what we'll do. Happy to work with you guys to clean up though." Caused a bit of stir, but eventually they just said fine. Let us know when you're ready to be initiated. We all wound up deciding it wasn't for us and de-pledged. Definitely not caring that much gives you power, but still I don't get it.
