People should be setting their tax withholding based on a fixed dollar value and not a withholding tier anyway. -- nm

Ex cap gains, my payment would've been slightly less this year, but that ignores the over 1G I didn't pay in withholding. -- nm

My federal tax paid as a percentage of my AGI was higher this year than last. I expected my refund to be lower but was surprised by this. -- nm

I'm expecting it to about break even as well. If you have a state income tax and significant property taxes it makes a huge difference. -- nm
