It was waaaay too popular for them to turn their back on the ratings.
So if the show goes on, you can’t keep the same crew alive the whole time or else there wouldn’t be tension.
So they have to hope that newly introduced characters resonate and they just aren’t really. Combine that with the time hop and I don’t have much sense of who’s even in the group, etc.
