working even in the best relationships. It doesn't mean you shouldn't try to work through difficult times, but in the end it has to work for you overall or there's no point to staying in it. Selfish or not you have as much right to be happy as your SO. If you can't both be happy (most of the time, because there will always be ups and downs), then the relationship isn't worth hanging on to for either of you.
