Also, maybe customers don't know it's a novel. If I write a novel about (say) the Battle of Gettysburg, I'll have to call it Gettysburg: A Novel

Because customers in a bookstore or on Amazon might not give it a second look if they think it's an 800-page history book, but they might if it's an 800-page historical epic.
