I was a kid when one of my brothers dated a girl who was undergoing cancer treatment at stanford.

a doctor there advised her to procure and use, this would have been the early 80s probably.
I remember even then thinking how ridiculous it was that she could be prescribed hard-core/quality-of-life-altering drugs that didn't help all the symptoms she was having but had to find someone and illegally purchase.
it didn't turn out the way it was meant to, but she and people like her are why I voted for the original legalization of medical versions. the whole reason it was/still is illegal vs. being treated like other drugs in general is just idiotic.
