What makes me feel like I'm from a different generation, different world is that it never occurred to me nor my parents to get tutoring

Hell, while I had access to two parents, I don't remember having either of them read my application essays.
I remember using SAT study guides....in 7th grade as I took the test to qualify for some enrichment program...(oooooohhh...look at the big brain on JD) but it never occurred to me to study standardized tests in prep for taking them in high school.
I just went to school, took the SAT, I guess my investment / privilege is that I think I could it three times, generally participated in school (ran cross-country / track, some clubs, part of senior class government) but it never occurred to me nor my parents to use $$$ for extraordinary efforts.
Sure, I didn't get in to my dream school (MIT) but I guess that I just didn't want it enough?
