dumbass joke about "women drivers" *oh, I'm JUST kidding" and his bandleader Kevin *shocked gasp* smoking dope. This shit wasn't funny 10 years ago, it's certainly not now. Letterman was quite innovative and we have him to thank for the more modern type of talk show. You can see his influence on Conan O'Brien and Jon Stewart, just to name a couple. And to the people who say, "well, all three of them suck up to all their guests", I think you need to watch a few more shows and get familiar to them. All of the latter three can be smiling, ask a guest a question, be polite when the guest answers and somehow make it obvious that they think the guest is a total dick. IMO, that's the difference in an ok host and an outstanding one.
