how, for the most part, the evil/bad characters aren't always just cowardly cowards.

Joffrey aside pretty much every other one is always leading the way in battle.

From Stannis at Blackwater Bay - first off the boats, last off the castle walls (literally dragged away)
to Euron in season 7: first on Theon and Yara's boat, kills the 2/3's of the Sand Snakes in hand to hand combat
to Jamie (before his face turn) going at Ned 1-on-1 in season 1 (and this was a bigger deal for everyone involved as then people thought Ned had killed The Sword in the Morning in 1-on-1 combat; most still think that though we know different)
to Ramsay facing down Yara and her men with no armour when they tried to save Theon or shotting arrows at Jon at the end of The Battle of the Bastards
